Theo-humor

This is funny...especially for anyone who's ever visited a "seeker sensitive"-type church. (I saw Joel Osteen on TV once. I turned it off after about 10 minutes).

Barbara, you link to the greatest things on your blog. I can't believe I've never discovered Calvinist Cartoons.

UPDATE: It gets better. Read this satire "25 warning signs that you might be obsessing about Calvinism" over at Purgatorio! There are too many graphics to download in order to post it over here. I'm far too lazy (and the kiddies need breakfast).

#17: You hear a news story about some criminals being “reformed” and your first thought is to wonder how many criminals are arminians. ROFL!!

Cartoon was funny.

How did Joel O'steen get equated with "seeker sensitive" churches? He's a false teacher with greed as his great desire. "Seeker sensitive" churches just refuse to cater only to church folks, realizing there's a whole of unchurched people who deserve to hear the gospel, too.

Just curious. :)

Have you also seen his sister site, Facets of Grace? Great stuff there too.

Hi Sara!

Nice to see you again.

Yes, Osteen is a false teacher, and not even one of the worst in terms of heretical doctrine. "Seeker sensitive" has generally come to refer to any type of psuedo-preaching that deliberately eliminates any references to sin or the need for repentance. You don't grow a church to 30,000+ members by talking about sin.

The term doesn't mean evangelizing the un-churched/unsaved, but rather the watering down of the Gospel message and preoccupation with pop culture and "contextualization" that has invaded the American evangelical church. Compromising the Truth in order to make it more palatable to the culture at large is not the unity of which Scripture speaks.

Shalom Marie!

Thought I'd stop by and say howdy.

I'd say Osteen is more the "we are rich and in need of nothing" Laodiceans. Health, Wealth and Prosperity.

The seeker friendly Warrenites are more Gospel lite, don't say sin/judgment/hell/wrath as that's not friendly lukewarm Laodiceans. Two branches of the same tree I guess.

And if you were able to stand Osteen's grinning face for 10 minutes, that's far more patience than I could muster. :)

I'm sorry, but I confess that I've committed murder in my heart many times when I've seen that slick hair, tan and perfect teeth grinning at me from the TV screen.
Oy! that one makes me angry!

Oh well. All things must be fulfilled, including the apostasy of the end times. More to come and soon.

I always liked that old Calvinist joke.
Q- What did the Calvinist say after falling down the stairs?

A- Whew! Glad to get that out of the way!

~:D

Dat's funny....great way to start the day; a strong cup of coffee and some Calvinist humor. :)

See Purgatorio link above. It pokes gentle fun at hyper-Calvinists.

Ok. Enough fun and games - I'm in James chapter 4 this morning. That'll sober me right up.

Have a great day, all!
